The Value of Hard Money: Czechoslovak Currency Experiences in the Interwar Era

In 1919, Czechoslovakia created a stable – and therefore successful – new currency. However, the idea of a “hard currency” combined many different and often contradictory visions and expectations. The talk will trace these different political and cultural contexts of the dream of “hard money” in the interwar period and offer some thoughts on the subsequent history of money in Czechoslovakia.
