Research on Czech Statehood 1848–1948. Concepts, Practices, Reflections

The research team focuses on the transformations of Czechoslovak statehood during the 20th century in the context of the Central European area. It focuses primarily on its ideological sources, changing forms of (re)presentation and modes of reception. These basic areas of research are pursued at several conceptual and methodological levels: legitimacy and structure of state power, political culture, applied politics of history, politics of memory, commemoration, etc. Topics include research underpinning the changing discourse of perceptions of the First Republic, the enforcement of loyalty to the state in the early years of interwar Czechoslovakia, and the staging and symbolic shaping of the power space of the Czechoslovak exile during the Second World War.
